Questions about import & export
What is an IEC?
The Importer Exporter Code is a 10-digit number issued by the DGFT. It is required to import or export goods and to receive export payments for services, with a few exemptions.
Does an IEC need renewal?
An IEC doesn't expire, but it must be updated on the DGFT portal every year between April and June. If you skip the update, the IEC is deactivated until you complete it.
How long does it take to get an IEC?
Usually one to two working days after the online application, when PAN, bank and address details match.
Which licences does my business need?
It depends on your activity, location and size. A food business needs FSSAI, anyone importing or exporting goods needs an IEC, most shops need a shop and establishment registration, and many cities need a trade licence. We send you a written list after a short call.
Do licences need renewal?
Many do. FSSAI licences run for one to five years, trade licences usually renew yearly, and an IEC must be updated every year between April and June. We track the dates for you.
Can licences be obtained online?
Most central and state licences are applied for online. Some, like a fire NOC or factory licence, involve a site inspection, and we prepare you for it.
