Questions about GST return filing

What are the GST return due dates?

Monthly filers file GSTR-1 by the 11th and GSTR-3B by the 20th of the following month. QRMP filers file GSTR-1 by the 13th after the quarter and GSTR-3B by the 22nd or 24th, depending on their state.

What is the penalty for late GST returns?

A late fee for each day of delay (capped per return) plus 18% yearly interest on tax paid late. You also cannot file the next return until the pending one is filed.

Do I need to file returns if there were no sales?

Yes. Nil returns are required for every period while your registration is active.

Who must register for GST?

Businesses whose yearly turnover crosses ₹40 lakh for goods or ₹20 lakh for services (lower in some special category states), and anyone making inter-state supplies of goods, selling through e-commerce platforms or acting as a casual taxable person, whatever their turnover.

What happens if I miss a GST return?

A late fee applies for every day of delay, interest at 18% a year applies to tax paid late, and you cannot file the next return until the earlier one is filed. Long gaps can lead to cancellation of your registration.

Can you handle GST if I already have an accountant?

Yes. We can file returns, reconcile credit or handle a single notice while your accountant keeps your books.
